Working it out
A US gallon is exactly 231 cubic inches. The 10% allowance covers resin left in mixing buckets, small leaks and resin absorbed by the wood. For a full slab casting, deduct the volume of any wood or objects embedded in the pour.
Pours and mix by product
| Epoxy | Max per pour | Pours needed | Per pour | Ratio | Resin | Hardener |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| TotalBoat ThickSet Fathom | 2 in | 1 | 46.7 L | 2:1 | 8.23 gal | 4.11 gal |
| TotalBoat ThickSet Cast + Coat | 0.5 in | 2 | 23.4 L | 1:1 | 6.17 gal | 6.17 gal |
| EcoPoxy FlowCast ⚠ each pour would be 47 L — over the 30 L that this depth applies to; pour thinner layers | 1.5 in | 1 | 46.7 L | 2:1 | 8.23 gal | 4.11 gal |
| MAS Deep Pour ⚠ more than one full kit per layer — MAS advises thinner pours for large slabs | 0.5 in | 2 | 23.4 L | 3:1 | 9.26 gal | 3.09 gal |
| Stone Coat Woodshop Ultra Deep ⚠ mix in batches of no more than 5 gal | 3 in | 1 | 46.7 L | 2:1 | 8.23 gal | 4.11 gal |
Maximum depths are the manufacturers’ figures at normal room temperature; some apply only up to a set volume per pour (EcoPoxy FlowCast: 30 L) or to moulds (Stone Coat’s 3 in per layer), and Stone Coat says not to mix more than 5 gallons at a time. Larger volumes and warmer rooms reduce the safe depth. Mix ratios are by volume.

Pour within the label. Pouring deeper than a product’s rated depth can overheat and crack the epoxy. Follow the instructions and safety data sheet for your product.
